Heavy rain in the forecast has forced the cancellation of several events planned as part of Killam/Sedgewick Rodeo Weekend, although the rodeo itself will continue as scheduled.
Killam Chamber of Commerce confirmed the Killam Blacktop Bonanza Street Fair and Killam Parade have both been cancelled because of the expected wet weather over the weekend. The Killam Blacktop Show ’N Shine has also been cancelled as a result of the Blacktop Bonanza cancellation.
The Killam Rodeo remains a go and will be held outdoors at the Sedgewick Recreation Centre grounds this year. The temporary move to Sedgewick is necessary because of ongoing work to the Killam Arena lobby.

Killam Legion organizers have also confirmed their planned celebration will proceed. “Our veterans didn’t stop fighting just because of some rain,” said organizer Stephanie Crouse. A performance is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Legion Cenotaph in the Killam Agriplex parking lot. Organizers may move the event inside the Legion building depending on the weather.
Campbell-McLennan Chrysler’s Friday activities will go ahead as planned. A pancake breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the dealership, followed by a barbecue lunch starting at 11:30 a.m. Proceeds from both meals will support local 4-H groups. The dealership’s No Bull Sale will also continue throughout rodeo week, with a variety of special prices offered on new and pre-owned vehicles.
Residents planning to attend any outdoor activities are encouraged to watch for further updates in case weather conditions require additional changes.
Other events still scheduled for this weekend at time of this writing is the Country Market in Hardisty on Saturday, June 20 at the Hardisty Legion. 9am – 3pm. The Hardisty Trail Run will also go on as planned, for Saturday, June 20 in Hardisty. “Come out and join us for a morning of endorphin-boosting movement, beautiful scenic trails, and friendly competition! Bring the kids to participate – we hope to see you there! All starts in the School Yard, be there 9 a.m!”
