Legendary Canadian rockers coming to Sedgewick this summer

July will see Canadian rock band Trooper perform in Sedgewick.

As part of their new strategic plan to enhance the quality of life for residents, and attract more visitors to take advantage of Sedgewick’s recreational facilities, the concert is being seen as a means to an end, “Council is putting its best foot forward, making this an attractive place to live,” says CAO Jim Fedyk.

Why Trooper? At present, it is the band currently making its way through Western Canada, and happens to be the band promoter Randy Martin at Karizma.

“Council isn’t trying to hit any specific demographic,” says Fedyk.

“Trooper is one of those bands with anthem hits that never go away,” says Martin.

Fedyk has some experience in seeing what a concert of this calibre can do as far as economic spinoff.

Council gave the go-ahead, and Martin immediately started to work getting local sponsorship for the concert, with substantial support coming through from the business community.

“This is a real, established brand of music, and this is a ground-breaking tour of a new program,” says Fedyk.

He sees it working in harmony with Council’s latest strategic planning direction, put in place in December.

Fedyk says the event is in line with the new directions Council wants to take.

The event will be funded from recreation reserves, and all funds collected will go back into reserves.

Fedyk says the concert was approved after Council set the 2018 budget, and that’s why it is being funded from reserves.

“We can build events like this into future budgets as part of economic development.”

Council sees quality of life as something that will be attractive to residents and visitors alike.

“There’s something very special about having a show with familiar faces and songs in your own town,” says Fedyk.

He expects to see economic spinoffs that will benefit the town’s business sector, bringing attention to the community that will support the local economy.
