The fifth annual Movie in the Park, this year hosted by the village of Forestburg, went very well, according to Jessica Docksteader, Program Facilitator for the Flagstaff Family Resource Centre, and for Parents for Fun in Flagstaff.

“We consider it to be another great success!” she says.

Docksteader estimates that 400 people attended, with 250 of those being children.
Early totals for the amount of funds raised are $7,900. “It was a great night for us,” she says.

The event was held at the sports fields just north of the arena, and had more than enough space to accommodate the crowd, three bouncy houses, a petting zoo, a face-painting station, the dunk tank, the chicken chase, swat ball and stilts, and of course, the movie, Rio 2.

The first two years the event was held in Killam, 2013 was the first time ‘on the road’ when the town of Sedgewick hosted the event, with great success.

Docksteader says, “This year we had four communities step up and bid.

“We can only go one place a year,” she says, and hopes that communities who put a bid in but were not successful will try again next year.

In the end, the event is the major fundraiser for the Family Resource Centre.

“This funding allows us to keep growing,” says Docksteader.

She says the group would like to expand the structure at some point, and also look at opening five days per week, with even more programming.

“It [funding] makes a huge difference to our operation.”

Docksteader says the board members of Parents for Fun in Flagstaff are incredibly dedicated, “Board members and volunteers put in 800 volunteer hours.

“They are invested into the success of our facility.”
