The Battle River Community Foundation (BRCF) honoured Killam’s Stan and Sharleen Chevraux on Saturday, Aug. 23. Close to 150 people attended to honour the couple’s long-time commitment to their community, with tributes from friends and co-workers heard during the program, followed by an auction of items donated by Chevrauxs and their friends and family.

Killam Mayor Bud James was the Master of Ceremonies, he introduced Blaine Fowler, Chair of the BRCF, to welcome the crowd and start the evening’s program.

Fowler introduced board members who were present, with special mention to Judy Larson, who organized the evening, and past chair Ken Drever, who he said has been a key part of the foundation.

Fowler quoted Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give,” saying that applied to the foundation, and to those like Drever, too.

Fowler provided some information about the foundation.

“We balance giving with growing,” Fowler said.
