Flagstaff County-hosted Museum Tour to explore local history
Flagstaff County has an assortment of unique and interesting museums and archives that are open to the public and are available to be toured throughout the summer.
It can sometimes be difficult to get to all of the different small towns and see what they have to offer, and Katelyn Richards of Flagstaff County is aiming to find a way to not only make them all accessible in one day, but to explore what makes each museum different.
On August 20, a bus is leaving the Flagstaff County building at 8 a.m. for a free, all-day excursion to county museums.
The bus has 33 spots available, and will travel to Alliance, the Diplomat Mine Museum, Forestburg, Strome, Lougheed, and Sedgewick before returning to the county building at 5 p.m.
There will be a guided tour at each stop, and attendees will receive pamphlets at each museum that highlights notable items and features that set them apart from the other places gone to that day.
“We have some wonderful museums,” Richards said.
She added that a lot of people in the county simply don’t know about some of the places they have available to them.
For example, she noted that Alliance has a doll museum that many people have never visited.
“It’s an awesome thing to go and see,” she said.
The tour is open not just to residents of Flagstaff County, but to anyone that is interested in the history of the area.
Following the tour of Forestburg’s museum, the bus will remain in town for lunch, which attendees will have to pay for themselves. This is the only part of the tour that has a cost.
Edith Jesswein of the Forestburg and District Museum said that she felt this would be a great opportunity for more people to see what the area has to offer.
“It’s just going to be a really fun tour, so we hope people come out,” Richards said.
Registration for the Regional Museum Tour must be done by Aug. 15. Contact Katelyn Richards at the Flagstaff County office to do so or for any questions you may have.
