Sedgewick Council pledges support to future spray park project

Parr-Park-SpraygroundWhen the Sedgewick Lake Park Association sent a letter to Sedgewick Council in June, regarding their endeavour to build a spray park, Council passed a motion to fully support the project.

Council further promised the allocation of $28,819 to the project.

The $28,819 was originally given to the new playground at the school but was returned by the CHSPS Parent Association when they received some unexpected grant funding.

The Sedgewick Lake Park Board extended an invitation to local and regional interested parties to attend the initial meeting July 9 to discuss the project.

The Sedgewick Lake Park Association has expressed an intention to submit a Recreational Capital Grant application to Flagstaff County for the project.

A tentative location of the spray park would be beside the existing wading pool out at Sedgewick Lake.

Sedgewick CAO Amanda Davis said there are no firm plans drawn up yet.

“We are measuring out the plot, and working up a budget.

“We don’t have $200,000 sitting in the bank.”

She says funds will be sought from public donations, grants, and other fundraising activities, but stresses that the project is in the preliminary stages only.

“We are seeing if it is even feasible at this point,” she says.

If the project is successful, Davis says it wouldn’t be in until next summer, or even 2016.
