Critters take on Warriors in Killam
The Killam Memorial Arena was full on Thursday, Jan. 23, as 444 people showed up to watch an entertaining match between the CFCW Critters and a Killam Warriors team, made up of various members of Killam Minor Hockey, local businessmen and women, and other brave volunteers.
Prior to the game’s start, announcer Marty Stevens from CFCW gave a short history of the Critters, saying the team was started in 1993, with players from CFCW staff members and friends. The team has played in hundreds of communities since then, and has so far helped raise $700,000.
Playing with the Critters Thursday was KPS Grade 9 student, Landon Eskra, who participated in a contest in the school for students between the ages of 12 and 15 for the honour.
The game was part of a fundraising effort by the Killam Parent Advisory Society, whose goal is to purchase a new audio/ video system for Killam School.
The system is estimated at $48,000, and Thursday’s event got the group off to an excellent start, raising more than $15,000, almost a third of the way to their goal.
