BRHL playoffs starting Friday; Daysland and Hardisty end season in third- and fourth-place respectively

The BRHL regular season is officially over with the last games played on Saturday, Jan. 25.

The standings were set last weekend. The first round best-of-five series playoffs will start on Jan. 31 and run until Feb. 9.

The first round will have the third-place Daysland Northstars face the sixth-place Macklin Mohawks.

The fourth-place Hardisty Stampeders will face the fifth-place Wainwright Rustlers.

First-place Tofield Satellites, along with the second-place Big Valley Oil Kings will get a bye into the semi-final round which will be a best-of-seven series.

The Hardisty Stampeders wrapped their season up with two home games.

The Daysland North-stars came to town on Friday, Jan. 24 for their last game of the season.

After a slow start in the first period where the Stampeders were down 3-1 at the end of the period, they came from behind and won 8-5.

On Saturday, Jan. 25, the second-place Oil Kings, who are on a roll, came to Hardisty with just 10 skaters and still took the win, with a final score of 4-3.

In net for Big Valley was former Stampeder Colin Stebner, who faced 60 shots on net.

The BRHL 2013-14 Season Awards winners are: League MVP – Goalie Adam Bartko of Wainwright; Rookie of the Year – Forward Matt Kinnunen of Big Valley; Top Defenseman – Jeremy Reinbold of Macklin; Most Gentle-manly Player – Forward Devan Shanks of Big Valley; Coach of the Year – Scott Schell/Ryan Pietrucki of Big Valley; Top Scorer – Tie between Davin Heintz of Hardisty and Ryan Olson of Tofield; Top Goalie Award (lowest GAA) Chance Clark and Colin Stebner of Big Valley.
