Battle River Rams Football end-of-year Awards
The Battle River Football Association wrapped up their season with an awards night, held Thursday, Nov. 28 at the Sedgewick Legion.
The Rams players and their families enjoyed supper, then moved onto the awards. Each player was presented with a team plaque, presented by coach Kevin Lefsrud.
Lefsrud then handed out eight special awards.
Rookie of the year went to Langdon Holt this year.
Peyton Sevcik took home the award for Offensive Player of the Year. This is Sevcik’s last year with the team, as he will be graduating, and Lefsrud said, “I believe he will be able to play at the next level of football,” before presenting the award.
Defensive Player of the Year title went to Tyler Bullee, and Lefsrud said of this year’s defence, “You guys were phenomenal.”
Best Overall Special Teams player award went to Kai Skaar. Lefsrud said, “This year we started doing something different; no one is kicking deep anymore. “We didn’t know at the time, but we were leading the curve. We ended up recovering at least 20 per cent, or more, of our kick-offs.
“This year we started kicked field goals for point afters, and there really became one guy who took leadership of that team, and that’s Kai.”
Award for Best Overall Linesman went to Cooper Snider. Before presenting the award, Lefsrud said, “In six-man football, things change quickly. This lineman can play offence or defence, and displayed a lot of versatility on the field.”
Next up was the award for Most Dedicated Player. Lefsrud said, “You guys were all dedicated. We wouldn’t have come out if you weren’t.
“Because of your dedication, you made it a pleasure to come out and practice. I was very impressed, as were your parents and other coaches.
“One person in particular showed up with eagerness, not wanting to stop,” here Lefsrud paused and said with laughter, “and now even listening to what the coaches are telling him to do.” He then called Kyle Sinke up to receive the award.
The next category was Most Versatile, and Lefsrud said, “We all figured out this year what guys could do what, and this guy can do it all,” speaking of Seamus Morrison. (We apologize to Seamus and the Morrison family, an incorrect caption appeared beneath his photo in the newspaper.)
The award for Most Outstanding Player went to Jesse Holsworth.
