Residents ride the Battle River Rail line to Heisler’s sausage supper
The Friends of the Battle River Railway (FBRR) and local residents rode the packed passenger train from Alliance to Heisler to take part in their annual Sausage Supper on Sunday, Oct. 27.
The ride to Heisler was part of FBRR’s tourism promotion to encourage area residents to ‘Enjoy Flagstaff County while riding the rails.’Passengers enjoyed refreshments and live music, as Margaret Miller played the accordion for the train guests during the trip. Once at Heisler, Miller also played for the diners there.
Recently, the FBRR requested and received $10,000 from Flagstaff County to help with construction of station fronts and to help reduce cost of the train fare for students, as incentive to ride the train.
Muriel Fankhanel, Chair of FBRR, said, “Construction will begin this fall. We plan to encourage the youth to ride the train and perhaps see that there is a reason to stay in this area.”
