Flagstaff Rec Grant recipients announced
Flagstaff County Council recently gave final approval on, and issued the list of recipients for the 2014 Regional Recreation Grant. facebook.com
Jim Fedyk, Regional Recreation Coordinator, says the county received 76 submissions this year in all.
There are 14 applications related to swimming pools that have not yet been finalized as the Recreation Committee awaits financial information, so Fedyk says the final grant total is not yet available, but 55 applications have been approved.
Fedyk says it looks like allocated funds could be the highest total amount, in this the third year of the Regional Recreation Grant program, and depending on the outcome of the 14 remaining applications, says they may be very close to using all available funds.
Fedyk is encouraged by the number of applications, but says the overall quality of the applications declined in this round.
“We were expecting an improvement from 2013, but perhaps took a step backwards in the overall effort demonstrated.
“It is tough to speculate on why this is.”
Fedyk says the county is determined to help program advocates understand that communicating their programs properly and comprehensively is extremely important.
“This means taking the application process very seriously, answering all questions completely, and developing an appropriate budget.”
He says it also requires an understanding of what the County’s values are regarding recreation and demonstrating effort towards adopting those same values.
“Organizations which are able to do this will benefit greatly.”
