Plenty of spectators showed up Saturday in Forestburg for the seventh annual Bog in the ‘Burg, but unfortunately, only a handful of contestants did, forcing organizers to officially call the event.

“The weather probably had a lot to do with the poor turnout,” says organizer Greg Lemay.

“Participants usually bring their families, and they probably looked out the window and decided not to make the trip.”

Lemay thinks the event’s date change must also have been a contributing factor.

He says, “We had a bunch of racers out last year, but we were running into conflicting events in June and decided to try a new date.”

“One flop in seven years doesn’t sound terrible,” Lemay says, “but it is still a little disheartening.” Lemay says the event would not have happened at all this year without a recreation grant from Flagstaff County.

Correction to our printed story:  We reported the name of a participant incorrectly in our cutlines for Tuesday’s story, “Phoenix Fink” should have read “Phoenix Streich.”  Our apologies to Phoenix, his family, and the Fink family!
