First Court Appearance for Robison

Sawyer Clarke Robison was to make his first court appearance in Killam on Tuesday but was absent from the courtroom, as was his lawyer, Brian Beresh, who sent an associate to act in his stead.

Robison was charged with two counts of attempted murder in the shooting of Constable Sheldon Shah and Constable Sidney Gaudette, both of the Killam/Forestburg RCMP detachment, from an incident which took place Feb. 7, where the officers attended a rural residence Robison shared with his uncle, Brad Clarke, who was later found dead in the home.

The crown’s lawyer, Rodney Clark, advised the court that time will be needed to sort through the case, which he said involves 20 police officers. Clark added that the investigation is still ongoing with additional charges against Robison possible.

The court specifically requested an order of appearance of the accused for the next court date, Apr. 3 in Killam to ensure that Robison was present in the courtroom on that date.
Other cases on the docket had to be rescheduled as the injured officers Shah and Gaudette were not able to appear in court. Those cases were rescheduled to late summer.

The small courtroom held mostly media and persons there for other cases, with none of Robison’s family attending court.
