Wheat Kings end 2011 with a couple of losses

On Friday, Dec. 23 the Killam Wheat Kings Jr. B hockey team hosted the second-place Vegreville Rangers in a battle on the ice.

Neither team could capitalize on their scoring chances, Killam was 0-6 and Vegreville was 0-8. The Rangers out-shot the home team with 23 shots, to the Wheat Kings 18.

The Rangers netted two goals in the first period from Zak Lang and Zach Soprovich. There was no scoring in the second period, but plenty of rough play, making the penalty box a popular spot.
Early in the third, Killam newcomer Cody Antos scored for the Wheat Kings to bring the home team within one.
The Wheat Kings played well in the third, but just couldn’t score.

Rangers’ Soprovich scored his second of the night to regain the two goal lead, winning the game 3-1.

The Wheat Kings played Dec. 30 in Vermilion against the Tigers, losing 3-4, with both teams wracking up nearly an hour each in penalty minutes after a fight broke out in the third period.

The Wheat Kings will meet the Bisons at home this Friday, Jan. 6.
