Flagstaff County welcomes new Economic Development Officer

Kristy-JacksonKristy Jackson is Flagstaff County’s new Economic Development Officer.

Jackson is originally from St. Albert, and was previously a chartered accountant.

She moved to the Forestburg area in 2013 with husband Garrett, who returned to his hometown to farm.

“We always knew we’d come here eventually,” said Jackson.

When she first arrived, she began working at the Battle River Generating Station, where she was able to put her accounting background to use.

After a few years there, she began to look for a change of pace.

“I was kind of tired of the number crunching,” she said.

“I liked working with people and businesses, that was my favourite part.”

When she found out that the County had an opening in Economic Development, she knew that she would be interested in the position.

“It’s more rewarding working for your own region,” she said.

She has not been with the County long, but is already hard at work with the rest of the Economic Development department in planning upcoming events.

Some of those events include the Country Roots Tour, the Career Fair, and Flagstaff Celebrates Success.

Jackson added that though she is new to this line of work, she is enjoying everything so far.
