    The Battle River Alliance for Economic Development (BRAED) started a ball rolling with a Youth Retention Forum held in Camrose late in 2010, inviting Junior Achievement (JA) to attend and make a presentation. Attendees of the forum sought to explore ways of increasing access to youth-focussed entrepreneurship programming and services in the region.

Evan’s blood drive an unqualified success 648 northern Alberta patients will benefit

    Late December’s two-day blood drive for Evan Wallace, the three-year-old Sedgewick girl who was recently diagnosed with a rare form of  acute myeloid leukemia, was a huge success.

    The results, according to Canadian Blood Services’ Jody Bredo, were phenomenal.

    “We’ve never had a turnout quite like this,” Bredo said.

Hippodrome grooves in Daysland

    As the show opened on Saturday night at the Palace Theatre in Daysland, one felt as though you’d taken a step through time and space to hop into the set of the movie, “The Commitments,” as lead singer of Hippodrome, Juran Greene, crooned out “Try a little Tenderness,” with lead vocalist Erica Hunt and backing vocalist Shawna Romolliwa bringing up the background vocals.

    Daysland Northstars hosted the Provost Blades on Saturday evening to a packed house.

    The Northstars started strong with four goals in the first period, to the Blades’ two, with Gregory Doll, Derek Wolbeck, Brad Trautman and Tyler Hurum all scoring.
