Northstars bring winning ways to new league, crowned NCHL champion

The Daysland Northstars wrapped up their regular season with a pair of weekend games at home. Daysland beat Big Valley on Friday, 5-2, and Saturday they ran the table on the Rocky Rams with a 9-2 win.
Prior to this past Christmas, there was a charity ball held in Vancouver called ‘Feeling Frosty.’
The ball is associated with the VIP Girls Natural Pageants, a program that is just celebrating its first year anniversary.
The Daysland Northstars, newest members of the North Central Senior Hockey League, hosted the Bonnyville Pontiacs who also came from the now disbanded BRHL, on Friday, Nov. 13.
Close to 100 people attended a special 60th anniversary Mass and Supper in Daysland hosted by the Knights of Columbus, Council #4008. This event was held at Our lady of the Prairies Catholic Church on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
On the evening of Thursday, Aug. 13, motorists passing through Daysland on Highway 13 encountered a massive checkstop that handed out some positivity.
The impaired driving event involved drivers being stopped and given an assortment of free merchandise, including can “koozies,” beach balls, and goodie bags, in order to promote awareness about drunk and drugged driving.
The Battle River Hockey League took a break over the Christmas season with games resuming on Jan. 3.
The race is on as teams jockey for the best playoff position.
The Tofield Satellites currently sit atop the standings with 26 points.
The Big Valley Oil Kings and the Daysland Northstars both have 20 points with the Oil Kings having two games in hand.
Hardisty is in fourth place with 11 points.
The Hardisty Stampeders had a home-and-home series with the Satellites on the weekend.
The Satellites took the first game in Hardisty 6-5. The Stampeders had a short bench with only 11 skaters. A good effort kept the game close.
