On June 1, 2025, at 5:23 a.m. Maskwacis RCMP received a report of a shooting at a residence in Samson Cree Nation. Upon arrival, emergency responders located a 20-year-old male deceased. The deceased was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the cause of death was determined to be homicide.
The deceased has been identified as Travis Jason Crier who also goes by Raven Crier.
“This is another tragic and senseless loss of a four nations community member. There is a direct relationship between this death and illegal firearms in Maskwacis. The community is saying it, we are saying it, and our leaders are saying it: enough is enough” says Inspector Richard McKay, Detachment Commander, Maskwacis RCMP.
“During our meetings with the Chiefs and Counsels of all 4 Nations of Maskwacis, illegal guns and gun violence are a serious concern and one they want combatted. It’s important that residents know they will have our full cooperation and support. If you know of the existence of illegal guns, there are ways to reach out to us safely, Call us.”
