Hohm & Co.
Hardisty, AB
The founders brought a blend of experience to the table: Sherry is a realtor, Cody an interior designer, and Tylene who also works in the oil and gas industry. What united them was a shared goal: to curate a high-quality collection of home goods, bath and body products, and Canadian-made treasures for their community. After three years of growing online, they officially opened their Main Street storefront in November 2024.
“We let the business grow organically, and when the time felt right, we took the leap into a physical space,” said the co-founder. “It was important to us that our community didn’t have to travel to the city to enjoy a beautiful shopping experience.”
The shop is more than just retail, it’s a reflection of values. Over 80% of Hohm & Co.’s products are sourced from Canadian-based or Canadian-made businesses, a commitment that’s been at the heart of the company since day one.
“We try every product ourselves before it hits the shelves,” they said. “If we wouldn’t use it in our own home, around our families or pets, we won’t sell it. That’s how we’ve built a collection we’re proud of.”
The retail space itself is something special. After extensive renovations, the building now houses both the boutique and a hair salon – offering guests a one-of-a-kind, two-in-one experience.
“It’s not just about shopping,” the family explained. “We want customers to feel calm and inspired when they walk in. Whether you’re putting together a gift or treating yourself, we’re here to help.”
Hohm & Co. has leaned heavily on social media to build its brand and expand its reach. From TikTok and Instagram to Facebook and their website, the business now ships across North America. High-profile features like the Flagstaff Crafted Gift Guide and the Jilly Box have helped amplify their visibility even further.
The local response? Overwhelmingly positive. “We’ve felt so much support from Hardisty and surrounding communities. It’s surreal, honestly. We started this in our house, and now people drive out just to visit our store.”
As they look to the future, the team has ambitious plans. They’re exploring branded product lines, including USB rechargeable candle lighters and infant cones, and are considering design consultations and furniture offerings down the road. Expansion and wholesale opportunities are also on the horizon. Still, the heart of Hohm & Co. remains in Hardisty.
“This is our home. We’ve raised families here. We’ve built something together as a family, and being able to share that with our community is something we’re incredibly proud of.”
Their advice to aspiring entrepreneurs? Start small, serve your ideal customer, and stay true to your values.
“You don’t need to be in the city to create beautiful spaces or offer exquisite shopping. Just because we’re rural doesn’t mean we can’t be extraordinary.”
