Sedgewick arena was a busy place over the weekend as they hosted their Minor Hockey weekend with five minor hockey games and two Sabres games.

Late December’s two-day blood drive for Evan Wallace, the three-year-old Sedgewick girl who was recently diagnosed with a rare form of acute myeloid leukemia, was a huge success.
The results, according to Canadian Blood Services’ Jody Bredo, were phenomenal.
“We’ve never had a turnout quite like this,” Bredo said.
Bisons edge out Wheat Kings in overtime

The Wheat Kings played the Wainwright Bisons at home on Friday, losing during the second overtime period by a score of 4-3.
Hippodrome grooves in Daysland

As the show opened on Saturday night at the Palace Theatre in Daysland, one felt as though you’d taken a step through time and space to hop into the set of the movie, “The Commitments,” as lead singer of Hippodrome, Juran Greene, crooned out “Try a little Tenderness,” with lead vocalist Erica Hunt and backing vocalist Shawna Romolliwa bringing up the background vocals.
Northstars pull out an overtime win against Blades

Daysland Northstars hosted the Provost Blades on Saturday evening to a packed house.
The Northstars started strong with four goals in the first period, to the Blades’ two, with Gregory Doll, Derek Wolbeck, Brad Trautman and Tyler Hurum all scoring.
Town of Ponoka and a Lougheed company creatively fined by Province for environmental issues.
The Provincial Court of Alberta has handed Smith’s Service (Lougheed) Ltd. a $20,000 penalty after the company pleaded guilty to willfully conducting an activity without approval.
