New RCMP constable amazed at what the area has to offer
The Killam RCMP Detachment has welcomed a new constable this May, new Depot graduate Mariane Marin.
She says she didn’t have a burning desire to become a police woman, but feels that she has a need to help people, and that led her to become a member of the RCMP.
She has an uncle who is retired from the RCMP.
She considered provincial police forces, but the RCMP offered the opportunity to learn English, to work in other provinces, and offers many specialities within the force.
Marin graduated on April 14, after taking her courses all in English rather than her native French.
“It was tough at first,” she says, having only taken high school English courses, with some college English.
Marin says her co-workers have helped her to find a house, and she’s looking forward to exploring the region more, but so far she’s already visited every municipality in Flagstaff.
She says she’s amazed at everything the area has to offer.
