5 people tragically killed in motor vehicle collision near Hardisty on Monday night
On Monday evening, Feb. 27 at approximately 7 p.m., Killam RCMP were dispatched to attend a two vehicle collision on Highway 13 south of Hardisty, Alberta.
A westbound SUV with a lone occupant crossed the centre line and collided head on with an eastbound car with four occupants.
The SUV then travelled into the ditch on fire. Fire personnel on scene worked quickly to extinguish the SUV.
Tragically all five occupants involved in this collision were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Further information regarding the lone occupant of the SUV is not available at this time. The 52-year-old male driver, 44-year-old female passenger, 12 and 9-year-old passengers of the car were from Amisk, Alberta.
“Our thoughts are with the family members of the deceased, and the community of Amisk during this extremely difficult time,” says Corporal Ronald Bumbry, RCMP Media Relations Officer.
Members along with a RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate.
Flagstaff Victim Services attended the scene and continue to assist with this tragic collision. Road and weather conditions do not appear to be factors.
Update: RCMP can now confirm the lone occupant of the SUV was a 21-year-old male from the village of Amisk. The name of the deceased will not be released.
