When Jerry Gordon of Killam was asked by his son to fill an open spot in a night of Texas Hold-em poker fund raiser put on by his son’s Kinsmen group, he enjoyed it so much he thought the Killam Lions should try it as well.
Gordon persuaded his fellow Lions members and they decided to hold their first Royal Flush Social Saturday before last, with all profits designated equally to the Flagstaff Food Bank and Killam Minor Hockey.
For the price of a ticket, patrons enjoyed a supper, followed by a Texas Hold ‘em tournament.
Each ticket qualified a player for a set amount of chips to play with, and a single $20 buy-in was allowed for more chips.
Once your chips were gone, you were out, and as people were eliminated from the tournament, players were moved to the next table to fill the spots until only a single table of eight players was left.
