Killam and District Health Care Foundation hopes for even larger turnout at second annual run/walk

The Killam and District Health Care Foundation hopes to go above and beyond last year’s interest in their fun run for the hospital.

The event was successful last year, with 64 participants and a large portion of the cost of a portable ultrasound machine raised.

For the second annual run, the group is hoping for participants to double, and also for more men to join in on the event, as last year’s turnout was mostly female.

They are raising money for several important upgrades to the hospital, including two Century Tub bathing systems for acute and long term care, a commercial dryer and two commercial washers, and a new sink system. The cost of these upgrades is $106,000. The run will take place May 24 at the Killam Agriplex.

This year, the run will also feature a special guest, Chloe Fee.

Fee has helped to raise money for other charities in the past, and is now joining in the efforts for the Killam Hospital.

There is a $25 registration fee, refunded if a runner raises over $200 for the cause.

Children 10-and-under run for free, though they are encouraged to collect pledges; they must be accompanied by a parent in the run.

Pledges can also be gathered using www.canadahelps.org; the Killam and District Health Care Foundation already has a profile on this site.

It is useful for receiving donations from people outside of Flagstaff County who may wish to support a friend or loved one in the run, or those who simply don’t have cash on hand and require the use of a credit card.

Friends and family are welcome to come along to cheer on the runners. They are also invited to join in for a barbeque lunch following the run.

The lunch is sponsored by the Killam Co-op, and the Lions Club will be cooking.

Runners will get their lunch for free, and the public can buy their own by making a donation.

In order to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Catholic Health Care in Alberta, there will be a story centre in the multi-purpose room of the Agriplex.

People who had personal experiences with the sisters will be sharing their tales with anyone interested.

There will also be prizes given out for the best dressed runners in multiple different age groups.

Prizes consist of tickets to enter into the raffle of the runner’s choice.

Tickets for the raffles will also be available for purchase for the public.
