Battle River School Division holds community meetings with Rosalind and Lougheed

BRSD-Payne-Mar-5-13

The Battle River School Division (BRSD) hosted two meetings last week, for 50 people Feb. 27 in Rosalind and to around 100 people on Feb. 28 in Lougheed, to discuss potential closure of each school with the community members.

During their January board meeting, trustees voted to consider closing both schools.

BRSD Board Chair trustee Doug Bowie opened each meeting by introducing other trustees present, although Kendall Severson was not at the Lougheed meeting on Thursday, and Rebecca Heiberg was unable to attend either as she was out of the country.

Bowie introduced Dr. Larry Payne, Board Superintendent to run each meeting.

Participants at the meetings were encouraged to ask any questions about the closure, broken into colour-coded categories, Educational/ Programming, Staffing, Classroom Configurations at receiving schools, Finance, Transportation, and Buildings.
