Wetaskiwin RCMP say online allegations false
Recently, Wetaskiwin RCMP were made aware of online accusations claiming that officers picked up a male from a homeless shelter in Wetaskiwin and dropped him off in a remote rural location in the extreme cold. This report was very concerning and RCMP took immediate action to review this allegation.
On Feb. 16, 2025, at 8:44 p.m., Wetaskiwin RCMP received a report of male causing a disturbance at the homeless shelter in Wetaskiwin. In order to prevent the continuation of any offences and for the male’s safety, RCMP officers provided the male a courtesy ride to a fellow family members home. After confirming with the homeowner that the male was welcome police departed. Police had no further dealings with this male.
RCMP are advising that citizens should take what is circulating on social media with some skepticism as often times such reports are false. Reports such as these degrade public confidence and cause unnecessary fear and anxiety. It is recommended for the public to rely on verified information from trusted sources.
