Fraudulent Bank Draft used in Wetaskiwin to Purchase Snowmobiles
On Jan. 6, 2025, RCMP are investigating a case of fraud after a fraudulent bank draft was used to purchase 2 Snowmobiles and a trailer, leaving the dealership out of pocket and deeply impacted.
The dealership was approached by the buyer with what appeared to be a legitimate bank draft. After the transaction was complete, the victim discovered that the bank draft was counterfeit, leaving them without their snowmobiles and payment.
This scam has raised concerns as to how realistic the bank draft appeared. RCMP are actively pursing leads to identify the perpetrators and recover the stolen snowmobiles.
Suspect is described as
- Heavy set Caucasian male wearing a white shirt, dark jacket and blue jeans.
- He was driving a white Ford pickup truck
Snowmobiles are described as follows:
- Polaris 850, black and tan coloured.
- Polaris Patriot, orange in colour.
- Trailer is a grey Marlon 400-006AL trailer.
RCMP are aware of other similar cases in the Edmonton area involving the same suspect.
