Pedestrian killed by vehicle in Ponoka

On July 28, 2024 at 01:45 a.m., Ponoka RCMP received a report of a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 2A and 57 Avenue in Ponoka. Upon arrival, emergency crews observed that a pedestrian whom had been laying near the south bound lane of road surface was struck by a vehicle travelling from the north bound lane.

Initial reports indicated that the vehicle was travelling north on Hwy 2A. The collision between the vehicle and pedestrian occurred when the vehicle over corrected coming in contact with the pedestrian laying on the road surface. The adult pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene.

The lone occupant and driver of the sedan, was arrested for impaired operation. RCMP continue to remain on scene for several hours conducting the investigation with the support of the Collision Reconstructionist.

Traffic flow is returning in the area though motorists are advised to drive with caution as police continue to investigate.
