Hardisty raises the roof with Hey Romeo and Domino

The Hardisty Ag Society held their Raise the Roof fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 25, with Hey Romeo, who are nominated for three 2012 Canadian Country Music Association awards, including group of the year, which they won in 2011, with talented up-and-comers Domino starting the evening off with their new song, In a Small Town, where the lyrics seemed customized for the event.

“If you want to raise the roof, this is your town, it’s about knowing your neighbours and a warm smiling face, the doors are always open, just come on in our place, the coffee’s always on, just take a look around, you’ll always find a friend, here in a small town.”
Domino has been named Alberta Country Music Association nominees for Group of the Year and Fan’s Choice, and band members hail from central Alberta; lead singer Luanne Carl is from Viking.

Hey Romeo was the headline act for Hardisty's Raise the Roof Concert Aug. 25

The ‘Raise the Roof’ concert took place right in the middle of the roofing project, with the north side of the arena almost completed.
The roof replacement is part of Phase II of improvements and upgrades the Hardisty Ag Society has undertaken on the Arena building, with help from a number of fundraising events, donations, and grant funding.

…… …….

The Ag. Society was originally incorporated in 1972, and celebrated their 25th year on Saturday evening, honouring past presidents and continuing the practise of honouring directors who have served a decade in office.
In those 25 years, the Ag. Society has had six presidents in total, and each was presented with a special token of appreciation, with only one unable to attend.
The presidents are: John Golka, who served for 16 years, Les Miller, 20 years; Denis Schmidt, 16 years; Brian Golka, who was unable to attend, 25 years; Anita Miller, 21 years, and Tammy Maxwell, in her 14th year as president.

Maxwell also honoured two past volunteers who are no longer with us, Janice Morrison, who served for 15 years, and Don Baumgartner, for his 14 years on the board.

Maxwell also made presentations to the following Ag Society executive members and directors with ten years of service or more: Rod Fraiser, 14 years; Winne Fraiser, 26 years; Bill Bourque, 11 years; Carol Bourque, 11 years; Wilf Beulow, 21 years; David Hooper, 11 years, Don Ritthaler, 10 years, Diane Fossum, 18 years; Deb Harrison, 14 years, Eric deKock, 15 years, and Don Campbell, with 10 years service.
