Lougheed Fair going strong after 89 years

When you hit a formula that works, you keep it, and the Lougheed Ag Society has kept their annual fair formula essentially unchanged for 89 years.

For those who took in the day’s festivities, it all started with a pancake breakfast served bright and early at the museum, ending at 10, just in time to take up a spot along the parade route.
The parade had entries from local businesses, service groups, and the traditional senior King and Queen float.

After the parade, and going well into the afternoon, the Cattle and Horse shows drew a steady audience, as entrants competed for the first place ribbon in various categories.

The bench fair exhibits, fresh from judging, opened to the public, and there were hundreds of entries in a variety of different categories, from flower arrangements to baking to canning and photography.

There were many local entries, but also entries from as far as Edmonton, perhaps proof of the uniqueness of the whole bench fair institution.
