Wetaskiwin Regional Airport’s 50 anniversary is celebrated with a variety of events

The Wetaskiwin Regional Airport will be celebrating 50 years of operation with events taking place on Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4.

Central Albertans are invited to the airport Friday to watch Mayor Tyler Gandam and Airport Manager Matthew Bleakeny perform a tandem jump with the Skyhawks Parachute Team between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., the city said in a press release.

The city has a number of events planned for Saturday at the airport, between 8 a.m and 6 p.m. That includes a flyover from the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), a fly-in breakfast, and aviation exhibitors such as COPA, Wetaskiwin Aerial Applicators, RCAF, and more, showcasing their businesses or organizations.

Participants can also take advantage of free admission to the Reynolds Alberta Museum, open to the public throughout the event.

There will also be a shuttle running all day between the museum and the airport terminal for hassle-free access.
