Bids for new lift station project for Daysland come in under budget estimates
Daysland Town Council accepted a bid from Nu Edge Construction, on the advice of Banner Engineering, to complete the lift station replacement and associated projects.
With the bid from Nu Edge, along with associated third party costs, engineering and project management, with a contingency, the project came in at $3.4 million overall. Council had initially expected that the work would be in the neighbourhood of $4.2 million.
Daysland CAO Rod Krips says that the province will cover 75 per cent of the cost of the new lift station from grant funding already announced, bringing the town’s share down. Instead of a debenture of just over a million, Council passed first reading for a debenture of $850,000 at their May 17 meeting. “That’s definitely in the taxpayers’ favour,” says Krips.
The timing of the bid approval coincided with approval from Alberta Transportation and CP Rail regarding the replacement of underground culverts that will carry waste water to the lagoon.
Krips says the project also includes replacement of weirs at the lagoon.
He says the background work has started, with supplies and sub-contractors, and he expects that it will be a week to 10 days before Nu Edge is physically on site to begin the project.
“With any luck, the majority of the work will be completed in 2021,” Krips says. He says this type of project is somewhat weather dependent.
