Drumheller RCMP Arrest Fleeing Theft Suspect

On June 10th, 2024, at approximately 5:30 am, Drumheller RCMP received a complaint from a Rosedale resident advising that a female had just stolen his white 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck from his residence on 1st Street East.

RCMP members attended the scene to investigate and converged in the surrounding area in search of the stolen vehicle and suspect.  At approximately 7:00 am, the stolen vehicle was observed traveling east on highway 564 south of Drumheller.  A RCMP officer attempted to stop the vehicle; however, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed but quickly failed to negotiate an intersection, lost control, entered the ditch and came to rest in a field near highway 56.  The lone female occupant was not injured and was taken into custody.

Investigation found that the female was bound by a Release Order and Undertaking with multiple conditions.

Trina MURPHY, 33 years old of Calgary Alberta, was charged with 6 offences:

  • Flight from a Peace Officer While Being Pursued;
  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance;
  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle;
  • Fail to Comply with an Undertaking; and
  • Fail to Comply with a Release Order – 2 Counts.

MURPHY was subject to a Judicial Interim Release Hearing and remanded into custody.

Staff Sergeant Robert HARMS of Drumheller Detachment stated “In this case, the keys for the vehicle were left in the vehicle making the vehicle an easy target for theft; we strongly urge all vehicle owners to remove keys and lock the vehicle when not in use.  Unfortunately, this vehicle sustained major damage during the incident and we are fortunate that no persons were injured during this occurrence.”
