An all-women and children picnic event is set for this weekend in Wetaskiwin.

The event will take place on June 8 at Lake Park from noon to 2 p.m., but participants are welcome to stay later, said Amanda Billings, the event organizer.

Billings said the event is designed to help people make connections, create a more positive place to live, work, and play and ultimately bring the community closer together.

She noted that attendees can bring their food during the event to share it with others.

“We are trying to have everyone select a colour and bring foods of that colour. For example, I chose the colour red and plan to bring strawberries, apples, cut-up watermelon, and fruit punch, whereas someone choosing orange could bring oranges, carrots, cantaloupe, and so on…” Billings mentioned.

Billings is also running a Facebook group called ‘Wetaskiwin Women’ through which she organizes women’s outings.

“We have coffee outings and are planning on creating events such as paint nights, yoga in the park, and karaoke nights,” Billings detailed.
