AHS announces temporary weekend closure of Daysland Hospital Emergency Department

Daysland Health Care Centre

AHS Communications – The Daysland Health Centre Emergency Department (ED) will be temporarily closed through the weekend due to an unexpected gap in physician coverage. The ED will resume normal operations at 8 a.m. on Monday, April 15.

Efforts to secure temporary locum coverage on short notice have been unsuccessful at this time.

During this temporary closure nursing staff will remain on-site in the ED to assess any patients who may present to the site, and to redirect them to alternate care options depending on their individual needs. EMS will be available to transport patients to alternative facilities as needed, including to the Killam Health Centre, Tofield Health Centre and Viking Health Centre.

Other services at the site will not be impacted by the temporary gap in ED physician coverage.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions. Individuals requiring non-emergency medical care are also encouraged to call their family physician.

In the event locum physician coverage is secured, the community will be informed, and the ED will reopen.

AHS is grateful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
