In January 2024, Devon RCMP received several Crime Stoppers tips with regards to a drug and tobacco trafficking operation in Devon. Devon RCMP, in partnership with Alberta RCMP Central Alberta District (CAD) Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), began an investigation. After an almost 3-month-long investigation, Devon RCMP and CAD CRU, assisted by RCMP Police Dog Services, executed search warrants on Saskatchewan Avenue West, in Devon.

As a result of the warrants, the following items, which are valued at over $125,000, were seized:

  • Nearly 64,000 unstamped cigarettes/cigars;
  • 577 grams of psilocybin;
  • 698 grams of cocaine;
  • 2,485 grams of cannabis;
  • 16 grams of methamphetamine; and
  • $1,520 Canadian currency.

As a result of the investigation, Warren James Wood (59), a resident of Spruce Grove, Alta., has been charged with 2 counts of Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking as well as Possession of unstamped tobacco products for the purpose of trafficking.

Wood was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. He is to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc on April 18, 2024.

“Devon RCMP takes crime seriously and will follow any solid tip or lead they receive from the public. We would like to thank those who came forward with the information” said the Devon RCMP Detachment Commander Sgt Chris Mosley. “This is a great example of how good information, combined with the determination of an RCMP member and the cooperation of various RCMP units and resources, can lead to reducing crime in our community”.
