“My husband did some research and we found Flagstaff,” she explains. “We found that there was tons of opportunity for small business and the support for small business was very large out here.”
They ended up purchasing a century-old property about 10 minutes south of Strome in February 2022, and moved in that May.
On January 9, 2023, Sabrina officially re-opened The Glam Shack in an old garage that the couple renovated.
“We took a risk and moved out here and it’s been great,” Sabrina explains. “The support from the community and the County has been just unreal. We say all the time how lucky we are to live out here and have just this amazing community and support around us.”
At The Glam Shack, Sabrina offers a variety of spa services, including eyelash extensions, facials, waxing, microblading and makeup.
As the old adage goes: “when you look good, you feel good,” she enthuses. “I really believe that when you take time for yourself, it just gives you a confidence and a go-take-on-the-world kind of attitude. As women, I don’t think you take enough time for yourself, and I think it’s really important to do so.”
Not confident about your makeup skills? No worries. Sabrina also offers makeup classes.
“I’m an educator as well,” she adds. “So if someone is looking to get certified, they can contact me.”
Along with all that good ol’ pampering, The Glam Shack also houses a boutique that carries home décor items, antiques and spa products – including a facial line and other skin care products – for purchase.
“I have a big passion for home decor and interior design,” Sabrina says, “so I wanted to incorporate another one of my passions into my business and offer a place for people to come and not only relax, but be able to maybe shop and grab a coffee and enjoy the morning or afternoon.”
The Glam Shack has quickly become known as something of a rural retreat. In fact, many clients have remarked to Sabrina about the serene sojourn through the countryside.
“A lot of my clients have said that the drive out here is very relaxing,” she notes.
“They maybe stop in one of the small towns in the area and pick up a coffee and on the way home, maybe grab some lunch at a local restaurant and do some shopping on the way. So it’s kind of an all-inclusive experience for the client, not just the one stop.”
Sabrina enjoys the opportunity to meet people from all over the region and beyond.
“It’s the connection and the amazing friendships that I get to build,” she says.
Success for her, meanwhile, is positive reviews, repeat customers and new referrals.
“Success in my business means hearing feedback from the clients and having people call and say that they were referred by somebody who enjoyed their experience here,” Sabrina adds.
“I’m very grateful to be part of this great community and I’m so thankful for the support the community has shown us so far in this short time, and I look forward to meeting more of you.”
