Larson’s Waterwell Drilling and Servicing Ltd.
5303 51 Ave. – Lougheed 780-386-3948
How deep? Forty-five years and counting.
The husband-and-wife entrepreneurial team of John and Carol Larson launched the venture in Lougheed way back in 1977, on the second anniversary of their wedding.
Over the past four and a half decades, the company has firmly entrenched itself as the go-to in the area for water well drilling, sewer installations, pump servicing, water conditioner sales/service, and Air Liquide welding supplies.
The long-established business, located in their current building just off Highway 13 since 1998, also houses a coin-operated commercial vehicle wash bay.
John once described Larson’s Waterwell Drilling and Servicing as a one-stop shop that serves customers “from the bottom of the well to the bottom of the glass and beyond.”
Office administrator Aleska Johnson adds: “We also offer spa additives for your hot tub or your pools. There’s an array of chemicals, filters, chlorine, bromine, and test strips, different things like that, that you can get here.
“We also offer hunting and fishing licenses. We’re an issuer here at Larson’s Waterwell. You can come and put your (hunting) draws in and grab your fishing regulation books. They are free of charge. Come see us in the store.”
Indeed, diversification has ensured that the work at Larson’s Waterwell continues to flow.
“If I was to describe this business in one word, it’s busy. We are very busy,” Johnson adds.
“Between everything from septic installs to drilling water wells, it’s extremely busy. That’s something to be proud of. It’s good.”
Larson’s Waterwell also owes much of its longevity to a steadfast commitment to using industry-standard equipment and, more importantly, laser-like focus on its customers.
“Our biggest goal at Larson’s Waterwell is to create repeat customers, to serve them, to do a great job and hopefully gain their trust to get their business in the future,” Johnson explains.
“John’s customers mean everything to him. Without his customers, he wouldn’t have a business and he wouldn’t be here for the 45 years that he has been.”
For John, a former mayor of Lougheed, there was never any question about starting up a business in the Flagstaff Region.
Johnson says: “John loves owning a business in the Flagstaff Region for the people and the atmosphere. And he loves the small-town culture and being able to serve those and create personal relationships with his customers.”
John has also been giving back to the industry by teaching the apprenticeship program for journeymen at Red Deer College. He has done that for the past 10 years.
