Vacant council seat in Forestburg

The Village of Forestburg is presently holding a by-election to fill one available space on Council, left when Councillor Gerald Caron resigned from Council after selling his home and moving out of the community.

New Election rules, introduced in 2021, requires that the village must have a nomination period of at least 28 days from the date a council seat becomes open, with Election Day being 28 days after that.

Forestburg CAO Dwight Dibben says, “Accordingly, that led Council to set the earliest possible dates for both as allowed by law, resulting in by-Election Day being March 22.”

The Village has candidate packages available for download or pickup from the Village Office for any resident contemplating putting their name forward.

Unlike previous by-elections, nominations can be filed on any day up to and including noon on Nomination Day, Tuesday, Feb. 22.
