Province to initiate public consultations on modern coal policy development

The Province announced on Tuesday, Feb. 23, that it would be starting pubic consultations on developing a modern coal policy for Alberta.

“Since announcing our commitment to widespread consultation on a modern coal policy for Alberta, we have heard from many passionate Albertans and interested groups who want to be engaged,” says Minister of Energy Sonya Savage.

She announced that public consultations will begin on March 29, and that her department will bring forward a “comprehensive consultation plan that is by Albertans and for Albertans.”

Details on what that will look like precisely will be announced before consultation begins.

Savage adds, “With the input of Albertans, a modern coal policy will protect the areas Albertans cherish while allowing responsible resource development in the appropriate places.”

For those interested in taking part in the consultation, the province had created a website where individuals can register via email to be notified when and how the process will happen.

The website is: https://www.alberta.ca/coal-policy-development-engagement.aspx
