Killam Fire Dept. plans food drive

In place of its traditional pancake breakfast to celebrate Fire Prevention Week, the Killam Fire Department members will instead hold a food drive, with all proceeds going to the Flagstaff Food Bank.

Fire Chief Joe Knievel says that with Alberta Health regulations, fire department members decided to change up their traditional event to ensure that every Flagstaff family has access to food in the coming months.

Flagstaff Food Bank Coordinator Tanny Kellert says the food bank could use the following items: pancake mix, cookies, granola bars, Kraft dinner, diced tomatoes, pasta sauce, canned corn (Niblets), canned peas, canned mushrooms, canned cream corn, canned peaches, canned pears, canned fruit cocktail, one litre juice boxes, microwaveable popcorn, baking powder, baking soda, raisins, instant pudding (four serving size), icing sugar, cake mixes, muffin mixes, and cookie mixes.

Killam residents are asked to put their donations out on their front porches on Wednesday, Oct. 7 by 7 p.m. as firefighters will be around that evening to pick up, and will deliver them to the Food Bank later in the evening.
