From the Archives (1970): New Pilot from Hardisty gets his wings
Originally Published July 9, 1970 – Captain D.E. Cavanagh, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Cavanagh of Hardisty, Alberta, received his graduate pilot wings at a Wings Parade at Canadian Forces Base Bimli, Manitoba.
Capt. Cavanagh was also presented with the R.W. Blake Trophy for exhibiting the highest standards of attitude, determination, and perseverance on his course.
The Presenting Officer is Brigadier-General C.H. Mussells, DSO, OBE, DFC, CD, Director of Exchange Services, Canadian Forces Headquarters, Ottawa.
The presentation marks the end of twelve months of extensive training on the Chipmunk, Tutor, and T-33 aircraft at CFB Portage La Prairie, Man., CFB Moose Jaw, Sask., and CFB Gimli.
Capt. Cavanagh will now proceed to an operational training unit for further pilot training.
