From the Archives (1970): Cabin purchased to start new museum in Lougheed
Originally published July 2, 1970 – The old log hall from north of Sedgewick was moved last Wednesday, into the Village of Lougheed, having been purchased by an enterprising group of persons as the start of a museum there.
A seed was sown that may blossom into a Pionera at Lougheed, by two men who have been taking part in Pionera at Saskatoon, namely Roland Van Dewark, who operates steam engines, and Adolph Russell, who operates gas engines.
A group of men met at the home of R. Van Dewark on April 16, 1970 and a pioneer Threshermen’s Club was formed, which will be in operation at the Lougheed Fair this year.
The executive in this club are: President – Roland Van Dewark; Sec. Treas. Adolph Russel; Vice President A. Huse; Directors: A. Whitbeck, C. Ingvaldson, R. Smith, P Guenard and G. King.
At a Chamber of Commerce meeting at Lougheed May 25th, another organization became a reality and was called the Iron Creek Museum Association. The executive is as follows: President R. Smith; Sec. Treats. Con Ingvaldson (seen above in the photo); Vice President A. Russell; Directors: Mrs. R. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. H. Derraugh, Mrs. A. Knapp, Mr. and Mrs. R. Horricks, J. Quast, Mr. and Mrs. A. Grieve, A. Whitbeck, and A. Snethun.
It is surprising and gratifying the interest and tremendous support that is being given to this organization.
An old CPR station is in the process of being moved to the same site. The Antique Fire Hall from the Main Street is to be moved down later, to form a street on the sight of the Log Hall.
Congratulations to the Garry Torpe Moving Co. of Metiskow for settling this beautiful all-log building down in Lougheed, without separating or breaking a log.
