Peter Hansen, along with Larry Smerechinski- Manager, MP Canada Execution, and Ali Hendi- Sr. Project Engineer from Enbridge, arrived at the Lougheed and District Library on Thursday, Aug. 22 with local contractor Daryl Flynn from F5 Services, to hand out a portion of some new community funding that is directly driven by the construction of Enbridge Line 3 replacement.

Hansen, Sr. Advisor for Enbridge’s Community Relations, says the company consulted with its contractors, locally represented by Techmation, Chemco, and F5 Services, to see what could be done with leftover materials on site.

To date, approximately 110,000 pounds of copper cable – collected and recycled following pump station construction – has been exchanged for more than $200,000 that is being pumped back into communities in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba who stand along the project right-of-way.

The funds are being used to support a variety of initiatives including community hall enhancements, fire protection equipment, environmental stewardship projects, food banks, and more.

“It’s a privilege to give back to communities where we operate.”
