New constable joins Killam RCMP Detachment

Cst. Jake Rains has taken up a post at the Killam RCMP Detachment as its newest member.

Fresh from the RCMP Academy, “Depot” Division, in Regina, Rains also has a Bachelors degree in Psychology from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

He worked for a couple of years after leaving university, for a pet store, briefly, and then as a sales representative for Pepsi. Rains says he loved working with Pepsi, “It was a really great experience, dealing with so many people in all walks of life.”

But there was never any doubt in his mind that he would pursue his childhood dream of joining the RCMP, he says. His application got delayed a little when he broke his foot at the pet store, but as soon as it was fully healed, he put his application in.

About 10 months later, he heard that he’d been accepted, and about four months after that, December 2018, he arrived at “Depot.”

He was to officially start work in Killam on June 21, but was pulled into service early when the Detachment needed more hands.

Rains will work closely with Cst. Mariane Marin for the first six months at the Detachment.
