Rescheduled COPA flights still attract high numbers

Iron Creek Flying Club members and helpers: Shelley Wakefield, Cheryl Abbott, Harvey Abbott, Wayne Evenson, Brenda Fink, Brian Forster, Wendy Phillips, Gary Steadman, Lynn Steadman, Al Squair, Beth Squair, Greg Sparrow. Front: Shannon Lockhart, Doug Lindseth, Vern Snethun, and Doug Niehaus. Pilots who helped out but are not pictured: Jason Freadrich and Tyler Pearson.

The Iron Creek Flying Club rescheduled their COPA (Canadian Owners and Pilots Association) for Kids day due to bad weather earlier in the spring, and held it on Saturday, June 1, at the Flagstaff Regional Airport instead.

Even though the number of registered passengers dropped, there were still 48 youth who came by to be taken up in the air by local pilots.

It’s truly the local pilots who are the heroes of the day, donating not only their time and expertise, but the use of their planes and fuel.

The event was designed to introduce the idea of flying to a broader audience and attract youth to the idea of obtaining their pilot licences.
