Pink Shirt Day a support of anti-bullying message

Local schools in the region will be taking part in Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, Feb. 27.

Pink Shirt Day is intended to show that society will no longer stand for bullying, and that we will acknowledge and intervene when bullying occurs.

Pink Shirt Day was founded in 2012 after a boy from Nova Scotia was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school.

Since then people from all over Canada have worn a pink shirt on this day as an act of solidarity against bullying.

Students are encouraged to wear pink to show their support, and Main Street Medley in Alliance took orders for specially made pink shirts to allow children to purchase one.

Bullying rates have decreased in past years but are still far from acceptable.

It is important to show support for events like these both as students and adults, in order to inform current and future generations on how bullying is not acceptable.
