Senior Olympics held in Killam a long-standing Flagstaff tradition

Right in the middle of celebrating Seniors Week, residents of the Killam Health Centre Long Term Care unit invited residents of both Galahad and Hardisty Health Centres Long Term Care to compete in a Seniors Olympics competition.

Competitors had their respective flags piped into the Killam Community Hall on Wednesday, June 6 as Ian Malcolm led the flag bearers for a rousing roundabout.

Competition began immediately with bowling and continued with a great variety of fun games, including cribbage, a target shoot, floor curling, sock matching, trivia, kerplunk, and a horse race.

Alexandra Buchholz, Recreational Therapist at the Killam Health Care Centre, says, “The games brought a feeling of excitement and anticipation to residents.”

She says in the end, host team Killam Kats brought home the gold, with the Galahad Elites taking silver, and the Hardisty Hooligans bronze.

“All in all, everyone had a great time and all are looking forward to the games next year, in Galahad!”
