Flagstaff Kids Connection Daycare can now offer $25/day child care thanks to grant
The Flagstaff Kids Connection Daycare can now offer 31 daycare spots at $25 per day thanks to a grant from the Province of Alberta.
The Killam facility is one of 82 locations in the province where existing programming will soon transition to $25-a-day child care.
“Families shouldn’t have to choose between buying groceries and being able to afford a daycare spot for their child,” says Premier Rachel Notley.
The $25 rate does not require pre-qualification, says Flagstaff Kids Connection Board Chair Andrea Bole. “It is not subsidized, it is the rate available to all our clients.”
Bole says more great news is that the new $25 per day fee includes all food and beverages.
“That’s up to nine hours a day where everything is taken care of,” Bole says.
“Our clients had to supply their own food, snacks, and beverages,” she says. “Now we will offer all children the same healthy meal. Everyone will be on the same page.
“It’s so necessary for their growth, development, and learning.”
Being able to offer food is something completely new to the Daycare, something they couldn’t afford to do at their previous rate of $42.50 per day.
“We were trying not to charge our parents a penny more than we needed to operate,” she says.
“We had to do a lot of fundraising to keep costs reasonable.”
Bole is also extremely happy that a local business bid on the food contract. Jam Tarts, of Killam, will be supplying hot and cold food to the Daycare.
