Lougheed Legion commemorates Vimy Ridge battle with pipers and candlelight ceremony at cenotaph

April 9 marked the 100th anniversary of the Battle at Vimy Ridge, a resounding win that forever changed Canada, and the men who fought there.

Members of the Lougheed and Sedgewick Legion came together Sunday for a candlelight ceremony at the Lougheed Cenotaph to honour those who fought, as well as those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom at Vimy, with a memorial for Lougheed’s Henry Victor Harding, and, from the Battle of Hill 70 months later, William Wright, George Leyland, and Thomas Barton.

Special guests were pipers Doug Brown from Forestburg, and Ian Malcolm from Sedgewick, as well as Cst. Mike Harris from the Killam RCMP Detachment.
